Tanzanian Finds New Professional Identity After Decades in Tech

Bhavin Rasiklal Borkhataria had a solid career before enrolling at WorldQuant University. He worked as an information and communication technology product development manager for nearly 30 years in Dar El Salaam, Tanzania. But he wanted additional skills.

He saw an opportunity to grow when he learned about WQU’s Master of Science in Financial Engineering program. He enrolled in 2023 and graduated with the class of 2025.

“I chose WorldQuant University because formerly I never had any financial education,” he says. “I was pure ICT, and I filled that gap.”

Besides learning theory at WQU, Bhavin gained practical knowledge. The highlight of the program for him was the capstone project, which required him to combine all his new skills.

“It was not just a simple exercise,” he says. “I created a model, I researched it, and it provided a world of knowledge to me. Completing my MScFE at WQU has been a transformative milestone, equipping me with the skills, confidence, and global perspective to grow professionally in financial engineering.”

Bhavin now brings everything together at SCI Tanzania, an ICT services and consulting company in Dar El Salaam.

“I came across new technology, where I could actually use my ICT experience and financial analytics to solve complex problems and to provide technical jargon to a nontechnical person in such a way that everything is understood well,” he says.

Bhavin says the career transformation was challenging but rewarding.

“The most important thing WorldQuant University taught me is to be resilient—to learn something after decades of not being in a learning institute,” he says. “I became resilient, learned new technology, and it actually gave me a new professional identity now.”
