Program Requirements

The Deep Learning Fundamentals Lab is a hands-on learning experience that accommodates learners with the right amount of foundational knowledge and a commitment to success.

The Lab runs continuously, so you can start as soon as your application is accepted.

Acceptance into the Deep Learning Fundamentals Lab requires:

  • Intermediate-level Python programming skills
  • Understanding of basic calculus and linear algebra
  • Understanding of basic probability and statistics
  • Experience with Data Science concepts
  • Recommended Machine Learning experience
  • A commitment to spend 10-15 hours per week on lecture videos, assignments, office hours, and individual study
  • Passing score on Admissions Quiz (70% or higher)
  • That students are at least 18 years of age

How can I prepare for the Deep Learning Fundamentals Lab admissions quiz?

The Deep Learning Fundamentals Lab is an advanced learning opportunity designed to help you master the core concepts behind deep learning through two units of six hands-on projects each - ranging from using PyTorch to build models to applying CNNs to real-world problems. Applicants are expected to have the following prerequisite skills: 

  • Basic linear algebra (i.e., matrices, vectors, and matrix operations)
  • Basic calculu

How does the Deep Learning Fundamentals Lab work?

The Lab is 100% free, online, and self-paced. Most students complete Unit 1 in 10–16 weeks at 10–15 hours per week. All projects run on cloud-hosted virtual machines, letting you code alongside lectures and collaborate in forums and live office hours.

The Lab is divided into two units:

  • Unit 1 (open now): Six projects covering neural networks, PyTorch, and CNNs. Completion earn

What happens if I fail the Deep Learning Fundamentals Lab Admissions Quiz?

If you fail the Admissions Quiz for the Deep Learning Fundamentals Lab, you’ll have a second chance to retake it after a 7-day waiting period. If you do not pass the Quiz on the second attempt, you may reapply to the Lab after a 6-month waiting period.
