WorldQuant University student Mohamed Hared Mohamed is using his education to help Somalia address leadership and governance challenges.

Mohamed, who completed the first two courses in the Master of Science in Financial Engineering program and received the Foundations of Financial Engineering Certificate on Aug. 12, 2026, works as a people and operations specialist at the National Leadership Academy, set up in 2025 to cultivate ethical, competent, and visionary leaders in Somalia.

“WorldQuant University has strengthened my ability to work with financial data, Python, quantitative analysis, risk assessment, and financial modeling,” Mohamed says. “I apply these analytical and problem-solving skills to better understand data-driven decision-making and financial risk in my professional work.”

Mohamed first learned about WorldQuant University through his undergraduate alumni network and enrolled in April 2026 to strengthen his quantitative finance skills.

“I’m deeply grateful to the institution for providing an excellent learning environment,” he says. “I particularly value the program’s practical focus on financial risk analysis, data analytics, quantitative finance, portfolio management, econometrics, and machine learning.”

Mohamed previously worked as a technical consultant at the Somali Women Solidarity Organization and was deputy director of public relations for the Wajir County Government in Kenya.

Even when he is not working, Mohamed spends time honing his quant skills.

“I enjoy exploring different areas of financial engineering, particularly portfolio and risk management,” he says. “I also spend time reading course materials and studying financial analysis concepts to deepen my understanding and continuously build my quantitative skills.”
