Temilola Adeyemi stopped scrolling in 2017 when she saw a Facebook ad for WorldQuant University. She had just received admission to a Ph.D. program in finance and accounting at a different institution, but Temilola saw an opportunity.

“Deep down, I knew something was shifting, and it was going to impact the finance industry,” she says.

Rather than pick one option, Temilola chose both. She enrolled in the free, online Master of Science in Financial Engineering program at WQU while pursuing a doctorate at Kwara State University in Nigeria.

“Now let me be honest, it wasn’t easy back then,” Temilola says. “Python? R Studio? What was I doing there? But I pressed on. That one decision has brought me more fortune than I imagined.”

Temilola says she had no mentor in the investment industry when she started, but she got one through WQU. She also found internship opportunities as her skills expanded.

After finishing both programs, plus an earlier Master of Science in Finance at Bowen University in Nigeria, Temilola’s career took off. She became a senior associate at Money Africa, a financial literacy edtech firm, and then became an investment specialist at Grand Towers Limited, a boutique investment holding company in Lagos, Nigeria.

Temilola’s next break came in 2025, when she became a data and quantitative analyst at Coronation Asset Management, a Nigerian financial services firm. Having a Master of Science and Ph.D. in Finance on her resume was impressive, but Temilola says the company chose her specifically because of WorldQuant University.

“My MScFE paved the way for my new job,” she says. “The recruiter chose me because of this degree.”

Now, she forecasts economic data using her training in Python programming and financial engineering. Temilola also has volunteered to give back to WorldQuant University as an alumni ambassador. Other alumni interested in the program can apply here.
