WorldQuant University Helps Prepare PhD Candidate in Australia
Portfolio managers rely on algorithmic trading for success, and Bhushan Oza is helping to advance the science in Australia. After graduating from the University of Sydney with an honors degree in computer science in 2022, he enrolled in a PhD program at the University of New South Wales.
Bhushan researches algorithmic trading, which requires machine learning expertise. To sharpen his artificial intelligence skills, he completed WorldQuant University’s Applied Data Science Lab in 2024.
“PhD programs in Australia are heavily research based,” he says, “so such coursework is important for success.”
Bhushan says the self-paced certificate program taught him how to work with real-world data. He completed projects related to housing prices in Argentina, air quality in Kenya, and other topics.
“I like the convenience of online and remote access,” says Bhushan, who now serves as a WorldQuant University Global Alumni Ambassador. “I also appreciate that the syllabus is contemporary and updated regularly.”
Originally from India, Bhushan moved to Australia as a teenager and gained citizenship. As an academic, he continues to stand out. He completed two internships during his undergraduate program and later secured two scholarships for his postgraduate studies.
Bhushan first heard about WorldQuant University through his interest in WorldQuant, LLC, a global quantitative asset management firm with offices in Sydney and other places around the world. WorldQuant Founder, Chairman, and CEO Igor Tulchinsky is also the founder of WorldQuant University.
