WorldQuant University fuels entrepreneurship in Rwanda

As a project coordinator for a nonprofit organization in Rwanda, Jean Paul Kwitonda relied on his undergraduate degree in finance. But he quickly discovered that he needed additional skills.

“I had to learn data analysis for complex, mathematical, and computerized skills to use in my job and to make big decisions,” he says.

Jean Paul chose WorldQuant University to close the gap. He enrolled in Master of Science in Financial Engineering program, which covered everything from stochastic modeling to machine learning. The education opened a pathway to entrepreneurship for Jean Paul.

“After graduating from WorldQuant University, I started a job as a finance manager and then moved to my own business,” he says.

Six year later, Jean Paul is an experienced entrepreneur and project manager with successful ventures in Rwanda and across East Africa. The list includes African Travellers, a travel company with guided tours to Lake Kivu and other wilderness attractions, and Albert Healing, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young adults.

Jean Paul also handles financial planning, budget analysis, and risk management at TooVii, another Rwandan startup. He credits WQU for preparing him for jobs like these.

“I moved between jobs and got my dream job after graduating from WQU,” he says. “WorldQuant University taught me to handle complex tasks using computerized skills and quantitative techniques.”
