WorldQuant University Students Bring Research to International Conference in Thailand
WorldQuant University students accounted for nearly half of the papers accepted at an international conference in Thailand, demonstrating the breadth of research emerging from the institution’s Master of Science in Financial Engineering program.
Overall, WorldQuant University students authored or co-authored 46 of 107 papers at the 10th International Conference on Interdisciplinary Research on Computer Science, Psychology, and Education (ICICPE), held Aug. 19–21, 2026, in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
The conference brought together scholars and students to share research and explore opportunities for international collaboration across computer science, psychology and education.
Two WorldQuant University students presented their papers in person: Di (Candice) Kan, a researcher from China with a Master of Engineering from the University of California Berkeley, presented a paper that she co-authored with two other WorldQuant University students; and Vishnu Dharmajan Sheela, an artificial intelligence and robotics engineer at Jaguar Land Rover in the United Kingdom, presented his paper on answer leakage in AI-generated hints.
“My studies at WorldQuant University have made me more systematic about how I approach a research problem,” Vishnu says. “Particularly through our group projects, we regularly have to define clear measures, compare approaches on the same data, test models, challenge each other’s assumptions, and ask whether an interesting result is genuinely robust.”
Other WorldQuant University students attended virtually or submitted prerecorded presentations.
WorldQuant University instructor Titi Aiyanyo, PhD, had a dual role. Besides teaching at WorldQuant University, she is a research assistant professor at Korea University, one of the conference organizers.
“I consider meeting Professor Titi in person as one of the highlights of the conference,” Vishnu says. “She was very encouraging about my research and presentation, and I appreciated how actively she engaged with presenters and members of the conference community.”
WorldQuant University papers covered a wide range of subjects, including financial markets, artificial intelligence, machine learning, risk analysis, cybersecurity, and quantitative modeling.
“This diversity reflects the interdisciplinary nature of financial engineering, where quantitative methods and computational tools can be applied to problems across fields and industries,” says WorldQuant University Academic Dean Gabriella Maiello, PhD.
