Some people apply their WorldQuant University skills in banking and finance. Agricultural engineer Nicholas Munu focuses on farming. He completed a Master of Science in Financial Engineering from WQU in 2021 and uses his knowledge to help small-scale farmers adapt to climate change in Uganda.

Nicholas, a senior engineer for the government of Uganda, analyzes datasets, finds patterns, and develops solutions across the country. Specifically, he designs small-scale irrigation systems to conserve water. He also studies renewable fuels, agricultural biotechnology, machine learning, and computational finance.

“I chose WorldQuant University because it is tuition-free, rigorous, accredited, and it deals with financial engineering,” says Nicholas, who also holds a graduate degree from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.

While studying online at WQU, Nicholas completed nine foundational courses and a capstone project that put his skills to the test. He says his favorite experience was working on global teams and building complex financial models.

“The Master of Science in Financial Engineering program taught me tenacity, self-supervision, and global networking,” Nicholas says.
