WorldQuant University Helps Alumnus Earn Prestigious AI Scholarship
A WorldQuant University alumnus from Bangladesh has received one of the world’s most competitive scholarships in artificial intelligence. Starting in fall 2026, Md Mominul Islam will start work on a triple master’s degree in Hungary, Spain, and France.
The experience, which includes a fourth-semester internship, is fully funded as an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Scholarship for Artificial Intelligence for Image Processing and Computer Vision. The program, sponsored by the European Union, has a global acceptance rate of less than 1 percent.
“I genuinely believe WorldQuant University's free programs played a meaningful role in getting me here,” Mominul says. “The certificates I received gave me not just technical skills, but the mindset to execute under pressure and solve problems that matter. That preparation made a real difference.”
As an Erasmus Mundus Scholar, Mominul will receive two years of graduate study, monthly stipends, insurance, and travel reimbursements. He will spend one semester at Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Hungary, followed by one semester at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in Spain, followed by a third semester at Université de Bordeaux in France. He will receive degrees from all three institutions.
Mominul sharpened his skills at WorldQuant University while simultaneously enrolled as an undergraduate student at Daffodil International University in Bangladesh. He completed WorldQuant University's Data Science Lab in 2024 and the Computer Vision Lab in 2025.
“I tackled real-world projects,” he says. “Along the way, I gained hands-on experience with PyTorch and other tools for detecting and generating images, and building the applications that showcase them.”
Mominul hopes his success encourages other students from South Asia and other underrepresented regions.
“People in these regions might not believe that opportunities like this are within reach,” he says. “But they can be.”
