WorldQuant University Helps Launch Data Science Career in Brazil

Data scientist Jackeline Gregório always loved math, but she did not realize how powerful it could be until she started college near her home in Brazil and took her first computer science course.

“Seeing the power of mathematics and computing working together and realizing how many real-world problems could be modeled and solved through them really captured my attention,” she says. “Since then, my interest has only continued to grow day after day.”

While simultaneously enrolled in an undergraduate data science program, Jackeline completed the Data Science Lab at WorldQuant University. She says the free, online certificate program sharpened her skills and helped launch her career at Banco Bradesco, one of Brazil's largest private financial institutions.

“Joining WorldQuant University was a significant step in my development,” she says. “The program allowed me to deepen my knowledge while applying what I learned through practical projects, helping bridge the gap between theory and practice.”

Jackeline says she appreciated the ease of getting support when needed, and the overall structure of the learning environment contributed to a positive experience.

“Everything about the platform encourages effective learning,” she says. “I believe the results reflect that.”

Today, Jackeline works on machine learning and deep learning projects at Bradesco. She says she applies the skills learned at WorldQuant University daily, which is one reason she gives back to the institution by volunteering as a Global Alumni Ambassador.

“Many of the methods I learned through the program directly support the work I do today,” she says. “It represents the continuation of a journey that started with curiosity and has evolved into a career focused on learning, innovation, and problem-solving.”

This curiosity spills over into Jackeline’s personal life.

“In my free time, I enjoy watching historical documentaries, food and culinary series, and true crime content,” she says. “I’m naturally curious, so I enjoy learning about different topics, whether it’s history, culture, human behavior, or the stories behind major events.”
